Distance Education

Distance Education: Things to consider

  • Do you have the self-discipline to learn without face-to-face interaction?

  • Do you have college level reading/writing skills?

  • Do you have strong time management skills?

Accreditation: Having the proper accreditation is one of the most important factors when considering distance learning. Three organizations can provide a list of national, regional and specialized accredited institutions.

Transferability: Transferring credits can be difficult sometimes. A student should check on the transferability of credits prior to starting a program. Many colleges require that a student complete a specific number of credits at their institution in order to award a degree to them. Some colleges also require that a student complete the upper level courses at their institution, and some require a specific grade in the courses that they will transfer. These are just some of the issues surrounding transferability. Always check with the institution to find out specific requirements.
